SkincareAcne SkincareThe Best Skin Care Routine For Acne

When looking for a solution to your acne problem, there are basically 3 things that you need to address. Your skin care routine, your diet and any hormonal imbalance you may be suffering from.  Lets take a look at these individually.

Why Is A Good Skin Care Routine Important?

When treating acne prone skin its important to ensure that your skin care routine helps to unclog your pores, kills the bacteria which causes pimples to form, regulates the excess oil or sebum production and also calms the skin by reducing the redness.

What Skin Care Routine Is Best For Acne Prone Skin?

Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face twice a day to ensure your pores are clear of any dirt and bacteria which can mix with your natural oils and cause acne.  Using a product which contains Salicyclic Acid can be useful as this will unclog your pores and help to remove any dead skin cells.  The skin cells on your face regenerate completely every 21-28 days so its necessary to remove these dead skin cells to make sure they don’t clog your pores.

You can use an exfoliator to assist in the removal of these dead skin cells.  An exfoliator, sometimes also known as a scrub, gently scrubs your skin to release the dead skin cells which stick to your skin and gives the skin a light polish.   Not only will the exfoliator remove dead skin cells but it will also leave your skin feeling beautifully soft and looking fresh and vibrant.

To help to kill the bacteria which enters your pores on a daily basis, the use of a serum containing Benzoyl Peroxide is recommended.  Benzoyl Peroxide will help to eliminate this bacteria and provide extra oxygen to your skin cells.  Oxygenated cells are healthy cells.  Make sure the serum you’re using does not contain too much Benzoyl Peroxide as this can dry the skin out too much.

You should also use an oil free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.  Some skin treatment products can be very drying to the skin and this is not good as skin that is not hydrated enough will start to age and lose it youthful appearance.  Also, if your skin becomes too dry, it will overcompensate for this dryness by producing more sebum and therefore more chance of pores becoming clogged and acne breakouts.

Why You Need A Healthy Diet.

Every part of our body is made up of cells.  For these cells to be healthy and thus create more healthy cells (this is called cell division or mitosis) they need adequate nutrition.  This means lots of vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit and vegetables as well as plenty of water for hydration.  If the cells in your body and your skin are nourished and healthy they will regenerate better and produce many more healthy cells.

Obviously a healthy diet includes lots of fresh fruit and vegetables which contain the essential nutrients that our bodies need.  A great way to get a natural dose of vitamins quickly and easily on a daily basis is to drink a glass of ‘green’ juice every morning.

Green juiceGreen juice is mainly made with green apples and lots of healthy vegetables like swiss chard, carrots, celery, sweet peppers, beetroot leaves, cucumber & lettuce.

To prepare your juice you need to use a cold press juicer as this will extract all the goodness from the vegetables you’re juicing using a centrifugal motion.  It doesn’t mash the vegetables like a high speed juicer would.  This means that you can extract as much juice as possible and be assured that all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs are in that glass of juice that you drink.  And its very tasty too!

Why Can A Hormonal Imbalance Cause Acne Problems?

A hormonal imbalance causes an overproduction of sebum due to overactive oil glands in the skin.  This excess sebum blocks hair follicles and pores creating plugs which prevent normal drainage of the excess oil.  As a result of this, dead skin cells become trapped in the pores and attract bacteria which then causes an infection resulting in a pimple.

One product that has been helpful for many people in balancing their hormones is evening primrose oil.  This can be taken internally in the form of capsules and contains a high concentration of Omega-6 fatty acids which assist in hormone regulation and cannot be produced by the body.

Not only can evening primrose oil be beneficial in balancing hormones but it is also known to dilute the sebum (natural oil) that your body produces which is beneficial in avoiding clogged pores.

Other things which can be beneficial in balancing your hormones are getting plenty of sleep, some light exercise and taking certain supplements like Vitamins A, D & K and magnesium.
